The Cost and Commercial Manager plays a critical part in the commercial and financial success of a construction project. 

At RealSense, we are experts in monitoring and controlling the financial performance (both forecast and achieved) of a project. We manage any risks there may be to achieving forecasts, whether these are known from the outset or introduced through changing circumstances.

In France, the "Maîtrise d'oeuvre" (Design team - Architect and Engineers) is accountable for the project’s budget, cost control, cost over-spends and forecasting of costs leaving the Cost and Commercial Manager function as a support role.

 

This is just a division of responsibility issue and does not change the influence and the importance the Cost and Commercial Manager Role.

Even if  you have the fundamentals right at the beginning of a project it doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way. Throughout the life of a project, you need to stop, look, and listen.

 

You need to stop periodically to conduct project reviews; look at the data about scope, quality, and schedule; and listen to the words of team members. Regular stop-look-and-listen breaks will provide essential insights into the current state of your project, and its prospects for the future. The project review can be labelled as a “project health check”.

A project audit is not about the health of the project, but it’s about seeing if the project is being managed properly according to the organization or profession's standards and guidelines. The aim of the project audit is to identify any project management errors that may have occurred during the project.
